It’s suddenly not uncommon to be teaching to students who are in the classroom, while at the same time engaging with some students who are attending virtually from a remote location. This combination of live and virtual instruction is referred to as Hybrid or Dual Modality and has actually been in use on campus for years.

This dual-mode approach to teaching comes with it’s own challenges. How can the instructor engage with both in-class and online students at the same time? How do students in the online environment have meaningful exchanges with their classmates?

In this short video from the Gies eLearning Team, Norma Scagnoli,  and John Tubbs, provide an overview of the experience for teaching and learning when there are two student audiences – on campus and online.
